About
Welcome to Life Unleashed - exploring the cultures around us, eating great food and finding adventure around every corner. Wander around and you will find stories of travelling the world, cultural perspectives and samplings of foodie musings to tempt your palate. Most importantly, we hope you laugh a little and like us, learn more about the lives around you and your own.
Life Unleashed was born out of our (Brad & Lisa‘s) love of travel and what it inspires in our lives. We travel to explore our discomfort zone, to find our place in the world and discover how similar the world‘s inhabitants really are. Travel creates connection to elements of ourselves that we can see in others despite the language, age and cultural barriers we may impose. It’s a study of humanity and in finding our own humanity.
The website will currently focus on our RTW (round the world) trip from Oct 2008 - June 2009. After that we hope to continue exploring the world around us, whether that means trying every restaurant in a 100km radius of home or seeking out local community markets. That’s Life Unleashed!

Who am I? Each time I set off travelling I seem to ask that question. The easy answer would be - a 30 something, Canadian software consultant living in Australia taking a break from ‘real’ life.
But really there’s a few things wrong with that summary. My work does not really define who I am and travelling has always been my real life. I’m up to ”mini-retirement #3″ as we embark on this 2008-2009 RTW trip. Previous travels have included 4 months in ‘00 exploring southern Europe & Egypt and 18 months in ‘03-04 with my favourite travel partner (Brad) in New Zealand, Australia & South East Asia. It’s only natural that its time for another adventure!
I suppose this makes me a wanderer and a dreamer at heart. Throw in a love of photography & the outdoors and you’ve pretty well summed me up. Let’s see who else I become during this trip…..

Thinking back to high school, I remember I wanted adventure in my life. Travel the world, sleep in a hut on the beach, try exotic foods, maybe do a few wacky things and eventually come back home to real life.
I never did it.
The years passed and I turned into a pretty grounded guy, career driven and fast tracking my way to a wife-two-kids-and-a-dog. Then I met Lisa and things changed. Her travel spirit and thirst for adventure was catchy and in 2003 I left that grounded guy behind for 18months of travel. After that trip, we spent a short year in Canada before returning to Australia in 2006 for a few years of working and beach life.
As they say, there’s no turning back and travel is never far from my mind. So when the time came it didn’t take much convincing for me to grab my backpack and leave for another big adventure!
